Southern Living, "The Inn Place To Be"

I'm almost embarrassed that I went all the way to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for the weekend and didn't see a golf course, missed all the hundreds of shops, and spent only an hour on the beach. But I have an exquisite excuse-the Main Street Inn.
Unlike the expected oceanfront condos and resorts, the intimate, luxury hotel is a fresh idea that will definitely test your resolve to tour the island.
Say you arrive on Friday with hopes of hitting a few stores before dark. You'll have to get past the warm, cozy parlor and the chef's afternoon tea. You may intend only to snack before dropping your things in your room and heading out. But one sample from the tiered tray of buttery pastries and savory sandwiches, and the next thing you know you're settled in with a plate, perusing the hotel's books and magazines.
Or there's Plan B. Go find your room, quickly freshen up, and step out for dinner. Well, you're going to spend at least 10 minutes gawking at our gorgeous haven of elegant furniture, hardwood floors, and intriguing art.
Then Plan B dissolves from a brief face-splashing into a full bubble bath. When you shake the spell, you'll either need to catch a quick dinner or just skip it altogether to be in time for the nightly desserts. Then sink into your fluffy bed.
You'll awake much later than you meant to, with firmer goals of adventure. But hurrying through the parlor, you spy slivers of prosciutto and flaky croissants. An hour and a newspaper later, you may finally triumph into the midday sun. The breezy beach beckons, and you stroll for a while, eager to return to the inn's comfortable surroundings.
The next morning, reality reminds that you've had quite a weekend, but you still haven't seen the island. The only noble redemption is two phone calls away: a message to the office that you won't be in Monday and a common confession to the front desk that you simply don't want to leave.

From breakfasting on a private balcony to enjoying aroma therapy and hydrothearpy massages in a courtyard scented by blossoming trees, this luxurious inn is fashioned after a European boutique hotel. Paths lit by gaslights and lined with flower beds accent the villa-style building on three acres, flanked by a nature conservancy. Guest rooms range from doubles to courtyard kings with their own fountained pools. Turndown treats of chocolate-dipped strawberries, delightful afternoon teas, and elegant accommodations make this a unique semi-tropical getaway.
